We’ve seen these superheros plenty of times on television and in films but they aren’t the ones with super powers. They’re the ones that dress like superheros we love for that perfect photo op when we’re visiting Hollywood. What surprised me in the documentary Confessions of a Superhero was how many of them are trying to become legitimate actors/actresses. At what point does a person convince themselves that this will get them discovered?

I don’t get it. I mean I understand going to Hollywood to be an actor. I understand being broke and trying to make money any way you can. I don’t understand dressing up as a superhero (sometimes in a mask) and thinking at some point someone big is going to see me and I will get my shot. You have a better chance as a waiter than standing in a heavy tourist area where people in the business don’t normally visit.

If you get a chance check out the documentary Confessions of a Superhero. It’s really interesting to watch, especially because of the individuals they profile. There’s a man that believes he is Superman and the son of Sandy Dennis (The Out of Towners). A gorgeous girl trying to live the Hollywood dream as Wonder Woman. A guy who was once invisible as a homeless person but now is invisible in a giant Hulk costume. Finally one of the craziest of them all is a George Clooney look a like dressed as Batman who loves movies so much he swears the outrageous events that happen in movies have happened to him. All of them entertaining to watch.

What got me is the interesting things people will endure and convince themselves of to fulfill a dream, or be famous, or do both.
