I must have missed this nice piece of work by Jeremy back in September, because I really thought the former Ben Affleck vehicle Ghosts of Girlfriends Past was long dead and gone; thus the bevy of casting news this week caught me off guard. For other, the film is now being handled by Mark Waters (Mean Girls) with Matthew McConaughey and Jennifer Garner starring.

Between the Hollywood Reporter and Variety, we’ve got a total of seven names to add to the film. HR listed these on Monday: Breckin Meyer, Lacey Chabert, Emma Stone, Amanda Walsh and Anne Archer. Last night, Variety added Michael Douglas, Robert Forster and Anne Archer again.

For those who aren’t fans of the synopsis Jeremy quoted, here’s a new one: “McConaughey plays Connor, a womanizer who attends the wedding of his younger brother (Meyer) and bride (Chabert). There, he’s haunted by several old flames, including the bride’s best friend (Garner).”

There seems to be some debate about whether or not the ghosts in question are of dead girls, or if the girls are alive a la A Christmas Carol (for the record, HR calls the film a “takeoff on Dickens’ A Christmas Carol) My bet is that the girls are still alive and Connor is simply having flashbacks. In that case, I would guess Forster and Douglas would be playing humorless fathers. The movie would also probably be very lame, which means I’m probably right.

I can feel my already tiny amount of interest in this project fading. Look for me to forget I wrote this the next time we have news about this project.
