The King of Kong is a documentary that follows two men. The first is Steve Wiebe, a normal everyday man who has never seemed to be able to accomplish anything throughout his life, whether it be as a baseball player or musician. Something always seemed to get in his way of succeeding in anything he set out to do. The second man is Billy Mitchell, an arrogant and annoying personality whose greatest claim to fame is holding world records in the video game Donkey Kong. That is where the conflict in this movie rests as Wiebe was able to conquer this record on a machine he owned. Mitchell is not one to accept defeat and thanks to his connections is able to get the broken world record struck from the record books. This documentary shows Wiebe’s attempts to break that record. I’ve seen bits and pieces of this and I want to see it just based on the over-the-top arrogance of Mitchell.

One of Bill Murray’s best movies is getting a special release this week in Groundhog Day. With the less than stellar releases of Meatballs, I am pretty excited to see this one getting a few decent features. The movie tells the story of Murray, an arrogant reporter who finds he is reliving the same day over-and-over again. I really think this movie is what made Murray a superstar and remains one of his best comedies. We get a commentary by director Harold Ramis, a new documentary and some deleted scenes. This is a very good release and one all comedy fans should pick up.

The main reason to pick up this re-release is the brand new documentary. If you are not interested in the new documentary, and already own the Criterion Collection, you might as well keep that version. However, if you want to upgrade, this movie will also be released in a Blu-Ray Edition. For those who don’t know, Life of Brian is a Monty Python comedy that tells the story of a man named Brian who is born at the same time as Jesus Christ, and it mistaken for him. It is considered one of the best comedies of all time and one of the most loved British films of all time.
