Once you watch the trailer for Neil Marshall’s Doomsday, I think you’ll agree that they should ditch the trite title and go with Gratuitous Close-Ups of Rhona Mitra’s Ass instead (see minute 1.43). Dear me.

As a follow-up to The Descent, I’ll give credit to Marshall for opening things up a bit (my standards are pitifully low all of a sudden).  And since he’s been above-board on Doomsday being an unrepentant Escape from New York/The Road Warrior homage, I guess I can’t beat him up too much for his film bearing an nearly plagiaristic resemblance to those classics.  As for the viral outbreak that necessitates the walling up of Scotland… look, this film doesn’t appear to have an original bone in its body, and Marshall also doesn’t appear to give a shit.  For some reason, I’m okay with that.  All I need is ninety minutes of preposterous, well-shot mayhem, and sated I shall be.  And if you want to stuff more Mitra-ass in there, that’s cool, too.

Rogue Pictures will unleash Doomsday on March 14, 2008.  Go ahead and act like you’re too good for it. I’ll see you opening day.
