Whole bunch of Wii titles this week, and that’s it! Guess some kiddies still have Christmas cash to spend. Or don’t, considering all these titles are budget games and hit for around 20 bucks. Nothing too exciting, of course… but since Xbox Live’s being all spotty, maybe you’ve got nothing else to do.

As if Amazon somehow knew that no one would want these titles, NONE of them have a link on the site. How often can you say that? Wow. But the downloadable games hitting this week are a helluva lot better….

Expect some much more exciting games coming up in the upcoming weeks! Hope you’ve all got fun plans for tonight for New Year’s- as for me, I’m hitting up a bar that’s open until 10 AM and will have free White Castle sliders available at 4:00, which is either the most brilliant idea ever made, or the most dangerous one. I’m not quite sure yet, but we’ll see. Have a good one, fellas.

 Kidz Sports: Basketball (Wii)
Buy this instead from Chud here!

HEY KIDZ! Like Basketball? Like bad games? Pick up this budget title for the Wii and be the envy of all your friends on the playground!

Know what’s funny? You could get every Kidz Sports game ever made for 5 bucks on PC! Which I’m sure you’d want to, immediately!

I know kids are stupid, but do they really fall for this crap?

 Classic British Motor Racing (Wii)
Buy this instead from Chud here!

Talk about a niche title. I’m sure a racing game full of Minis and Rovers must make someone somewhere exited out there, but I’m not sure they own Wiis.

Also less exciting is that it’s made by the same company who made…

  Monster Trux Offroad (Wii)
Buy this instead from Chud here!

…this game. Can we all agree that ending a title with an X or Z doesn’t make it any more exciting or enticing for the younger generation? Can we do that, please?

Also, why would you buy this when you can buy Excite Truck is beyond me. These guys even ripped off the cover art!

 Rig Racer 2 (Wii)
Buy this instead from Chud here!

RIGGGGGGG RACER returns! Wait, what? No, I never heard of Rig Racer either, but this sequel was a European-only release for the PS2- back in 2005. A racing game with trucks that lacks the charm of Big Mother Truckers, if you can get your head around that one.

I like the synopsis. "Featuring realistic weather conditions –from sunshine to heavy rain and even light showers." Even light showers? Fuck me. That is realistic.

Myth Makers: Orbs of Doom (Wii)
Buy this instead from Chud here!

Not sure how this Skinny Puppy album became a video game series, but we can all agree how twisted it must… Oh, it has nothing to do with that? Nevermind.

But yeah, there was a Myth Makers Mario Kart game released just last month, and now they have a Monkey Ball ripoff. Seriously, it’s creatures inside balls rolling around as you balance the Wii remote. Why you wouldn’t pick up the originator of the "genre", blah blah blah.

-Downloads for the week!-

Monday’s Virtual Console titles

 Bubble Bobble (NES – 500 Points – $5)

This is one of those games that you’ll instantly want to buy because of your childhood memories. How many afternoons were spent trapping your enemies in bubbles and popping those suckers? Ahh, the good old days. This is definitely worth a purchase for most, unless you’ve got one of those hundreds of Bust a Move games that include it in the special features. About time for a real sequel to this, isn’t it? I’d love to see this as an Xbox Live title with new graphics and online play…

 Light Crusader (Genesis – 600 Points- $6)

This is a Treasure (Gunstar Heroes, Radiant Silvergun, Sin and Punishment) game that you might not have heard about, but there might be a reason for that. The game’s their first and only RPG, an isometric slasher like Landstalker or Beyond Oasis with a very Western style. Apparently the puzzles get annoying, and there isn’t much of a combat system, but you really can’t go wrong with anything the company has released, their first title notwithstanding. I really am glad Treasure is getting a lot of love from both the Wii and the Xbox360’s downloadable services, as it’s nice to see kids getting into some of the classics they would never have otherwise.

 Top Hunter (NeoGeo – 800 points – $8)

AKA Top Hunter: Roddy & Cathy, which describes the two main characters you fight with in this side scrolling adventure game. Top Hunter looks a lot like a certain other SNK shooter (see below), which is to say, pretty damn good. It’s also one of those games which utilize two different planes which you can jump back and forth from to solve puzzles and such. Always wanted to play this one, this might get a download from me.

Wednesday’s Xbox Live Arcade titles

 Metal Slug 3 (Arcade – 800 Points – $10)

While I have nothing but love for the Metal Slug series, I’m not sure this is such a great deal at 800 points. You can pick up every Metal Slug game ever made on the Wii or PS2 for a few bucks more. Course, this is one of the best in the series, and the new HD graphics, achievements and online multiplayer make it much more enticing. Definitely can’t go wrong for this, and it’s a pretty great way for Xbox Live Arcade to start off the new year.
