I’m quickly becoming transfixed with these Stan Winston School videos on YouTube chronicling the adventures of the master fx artist and his shop. So much of what’s on display in this video, documenting the studio’s work on Winston’s directorial effort Pumpkinhead, is what’s missing in genre cinema nowadays. There’s such a tangibility to the texture of the creature and in the way it interacts with gravity that it puts many a CG creation to shame. Thankfully, videos like this one keep the magic of practical fx work from attaining “lost art” status*:

*Of course practicality is still employed in modern filmmaking. But… like… fuck, just look at that big ol’ Pumpkinhead!
