I’m in a talkative mood, so this is either going to be a long post or there will be a 2nd one to follow. Music on the brain and you know that is one of my favorite things to talk about.

First.

Dan Wilcox makes me feel as though after 20 something years of being into music I have barely begun to scratch the surface.

Mr. Wilcox is a DJ on LA NPR station KCRW. I know, I know… ‘hey, fuck you LA boy, with your LA radio… thanks for talking about shit we care about’*.

Relax (Tim). Mr. Wilcox’s show airs Saturdays out here from 12AM to 3AM, so I don’t always get to catch it myself. You can go here:

http://www.kcrw.com/music

to KCRW’s website to access his shows, OR his most recent being here:

http://www.kcrw.com/music/programs/df/digging_for_fire

(this was a really good show).

The contemporary aspect of his show is amazing – he makes The Kills sound fluent to Dan le Sac Vs Scrubious Pip, to Feli Kuti, to Blackbuster, to some London DJ I’ve never fucking heard of remixing some African leisure band covering some indie hack-soul band from the 60’s I’ve never heard of.

Really

No, seriously, the 3 hours he spins on subscriber supported WKCRW have become a bench mark in my weekly existence, much like Lost when it’s in season or beer (but of course, that’s daily) or The Walking Dead (monthly).

I know a lot of folks reading this are not LA based, so I wanted to pimp this just because it’s such a fucking good time, a good source for inspiration (I’ve been committing my time every week listening to writing on my new attempt at a novel and it’s going pretty damn good!!!) and new music to listen to in your daily life (I don’t know about you, but I need more and more of that shit everyday).

I haven’t  cared shit about radio since St. Xavier Uni’s 88.3 back in the day (like 90-93, Sunday night metal) and now this… well, this is just an amazing show by an amazing man who knows how to really crawl into the cracks and crevices of listenership and dust around to find the natural ingredients.

Listen. Trust me.

………

* As I’ve mentioned I’m from the Midwest and would treat LA related radio praise as pointless in my life. However with the advent of this new thing the Internet we live in a more global-NOW world, so hear me out and then log on and listen!!!
