s3-arrested-development-wallpaper-001_FULLIt’s feature film or bust!

In his talk about season 4 of Arrested Development on Netflix, series mastermind Michael Hurwitz has never been shy about his plans for the new season to lead to an Arrested Development movie. This has in fact been a common refrain in interviews with cast and crew over the years, even before there was anything concrete on the horizon. Still, a new season on the way certainly tempts audiences to think “the show is back!” and that it might just continue on as a series- not the case.

The news bit comes from Netflix CEO Reed Hastings made it clear at a conference that the company sees Season 4 as a big, miraculous one-off event.

“We don’t anticipate being able to do season five, six and seven… and we have less of a stake in it. So it’s really a fantastic one-off which is coming together incredibly.”

Now obviously there’s some wiggle room in the statement, but ultimately this sounds like a big event that will either light up momentum for the movie, or it will be a nice bit of closure for fans and the cast. A true, ephemeral pop culture miracle. With Hurwitz scheming on an eventual movie though, and a movie much handprint2more likely to get the entire cast back together at once, that seems like the ideal path for the Bluths, if in fact destiny has their story continuing past this new season. I think chances are very high there will be a studio interested, but it remains to be seen how S4 leaves things to determine if it’s actually good idea…

Set your expectations appropriately ladies and gents.
