The teaser was sharp enough, but this is trailer for a big bloated blockbuster that I’d actually like to see. There’s no love for Johnny Depp out there anymore, but the deadpan stuff works here. Verbinski can handle big virtual action, and there’s enough character in the supernatural stuff and the quirky horse material to keep my interest hooked in. It’s kind of amazing how closely they’ve hewn to the Cowboys & Aliens trailers, what with the snap wake-up in the middle of the desert (on a tower, granted) and the flashbacks to a forgotten identity.
With Depp in place and the action large, I think it will do just fine though. Between this and the Man Of Steel trailer looking pretty badass, it’s a good day for on-the-quality-bubble projects.
