It’s been a plodding, meandering shuffle to get World War Z into theaters. An adaptation of Max Brooks’ 2006 follow-up to The Zombie Survival Guide, Z saw its March 2012 release date pushed back to June 21, 2013 for an onslaught of rewrites and reshoots. The J. Michael Straczynski script was later doctored by Damon Lindelof (a bad thing) who then handed the third act off to Drew Goddard for polishing (a great thing). Seven weeks of Budapest reshoots later and we finally have our look at the damned thing.
This is one of those awful Entertainment Tonight “trailer for the trailer” previews. As always, I recommend keeping it on mute in matters such as this. The whole zombies-as-killing-swarm is interesting, if perhaps a touch CG heavy. It’s tough to get a read here, so far the footage doesn’t look as bad as its troubled gestation would lead you to believe:
