It’s a fluff piece, but an admittedly fascinating one. This 60 Minutes story chronicling Spielberg’s career finds a fairly interesting through line regarding the father figures in his films. Tying in Lincoln as the “Father of America” feels a bit on the nose, but then again, so do most of the director’s recent films.
I have trouble reconciling the early Steven Spielberg with this more self-serious, socio-political Spielberg of modern-times – but through it all still find his films eminently watchable, if not always roundly enjoyable. That being said, this piece provided some great insight into the filmmaker:
