We’ve seen him before but there he is once again, looking a whole hell of a lot more comfortable in his mountain of makeup than poor Tobey Jones. Along with the poster we have a release date for Hitchcock, and turns out Fox Searchlight is going to sneak it out this year on November 23rd.
Anthony Hopkins is playing Alfred Hitchcock (A.H. is A.H.!) in the feature film about the man, which will cover his experience making Psycho and being surrounded by people like Janet Leigh, Vera Miles, Alma Reville, Ed Gein, and Anthony Perkins. All these interesting figures have given director Sacha Gervasi (Anvil!) license to assemble a very bizarre cast that includes Jessica Biel, Scarlet Johansson, Helen Mirren, Ralph Macchio, Toni Collete, Michael Stuhlbarg, Michael Winctott, and Kurtwood Smith.
As good as the make-up as, we need a trailer for this one as The Girl proves that even a stellar actor like Tobey Jones can get mired in an off-kilter accent. I’ll give Hopkins the benefit of the doubt but Hitchcock is definitely a big personality to inhabit, and an actor of any caliber is going to have to carefully balance impersonation with characterization. The November date certainly suggests Fox has confidence in the film though, as this now positions Hopkins squarely in Oscar territory if the performance is up to snuff.
