I don’t know what’s going on with Joaquin Phoenix at around 0:43 in this new clip for Paul Thomas Anderson’s The Master. I just know that he’s having a really good time, and totally vibing on everything Seymour Hoffman’s Lancaster Dodd is laying down. Am I intimating that he’s in some sort of orgasmic trance? I assure you, I’m not. I just want to point out that I can’t see the man’s hands, so who knows what’s going on? Is he jerking off? Doubtful, but then again, Dodd’s voice is pretty incredible and we’re all friends here. No judgment.
