Up above there is the slightly incongruous image of David Cronenberg and his Cosmopolis star Robert Pattinson at the New York Stock Exchange, ringing the opening bell. Considering the film they’re promoting is about an investment banker losing his fortune by the millions a minute and the film spends much of its time waxing apocalyptic about the out of control nature of “cyber capital,” it’s an amusingly ironic promotional opportunity to be sure.
Below you’ll find Robert Pattinson’s appearance on last night’s The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, and if you haven’t already been long convinced this actor is worth more than his Twilight fame would suggest, this might turn you around. Charming, classy, and good natured, it’s easy to see why directors who give a shit about things other than tween fanbase crossover and sharp jawlines still have interest in the guy. There’s not much of substance in the interview about Cosmopolis, but there is a short clip if you’re particularly hungry, as well as a request from Pattinson to his Twilight fans to see the film that’s pretty amusing.
I’ve been tinkering with a review of the film for some time now, and I’ve finally started to make my way through it. Expect that tonight or early tomorrow if you’re interested in my thoughts.
Spoiler alert: It’s weird, and I liked it.
