I am way, way sold on this.
There’s nothing like a trailer that’s overrun with style- the kind you can detect works so well because the footage it’s cutting from is so consistently classy. I’m not the least bit familiar with Yann Martel’s 2001 novel, but I’m all kind of down for this very special looking movie, which appears to be the kind of thing I was hoping for from Tarsem once he got a budget.
Ang Lee is behind the camera on this one, though you can confidently guess he’s been directing pixels as much as cameras. All the CGI looks great so far though, even the animal stuff which is so often the sore-thumb effects in otherwise great-looking movies.
Release: November 21st, 2012
In QT HD at Apple.
Director Ang Lee (Brokeback Mountain, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) creates a groundbreaking movie event about a young man who survives a tragic disaster at sea and is hurtled into an epic journey of adventure and discovery. While marooned on a lifeboat, he forms an amazing and unexpected connection with the ship’s only other survivor — a fearsome Bengal tiger.
