Spooky things are in store for Zoe Lister-Jones.

According to a report by Deadline, Zoe Lister-Jones has been announced as the writer and director for a new version of The Craft that’s coming from BlumhouseProductions and Columbia Pictures.

The 1996 original film was directed by Andrew Fleming and starred Robin Tunney, Fairuza Balk, Neve Campbelland Rachel True as a group of outcast teenagers learning to practice witchcraft at fictional Los Angeles high school.

So, it was basically Harry Potter before Harry Potter was a thing.

While the supernatural horror film made over $55 million at the worldwide box office with a budget of $15 million, The Craft went on to gain a cult following since its initial release.

Blumhouse has been talking about rebooting The Craft for a number of years now, but with the announcement of Lister-Jones joining the project, it looks like it’s finally going to be moving forward.

Zoe Lister-Jones acting credits date back all the way to the early 2000s. It wasn’t until 2009 when she made her breakout, however, in such films as State of Play, Salt, The Other Guys and Lola Versus.

In 2017, she made her directorial debut with a quirky yet sentimental musical dramedy called Band Aid — a film which received plenty of love from the critics (including yours truly) at the time.

Apart from Lister-Jones involvement, there’s not much else known about The Craft remake at this time other than that Douglas Wick and Lucy Fisher’s Red Wagon Entertainment will be producing alongside Blumhouse. No cast, plot details or release date have yet been announced.

That being said, a Craft reboot seems like a pretty obvious no-brainer and Zoe Lister-Jones seems like the right person to be helming the property. While Band Aid wasn’t a perfect film, it definitely threw Lister-Jones into the limelight as a director who has something to say, so seeing that carry into a completely different genre will be interesting.
