Who do I have to put a silver bullet in to get a decent werewolf movie? It seems like for every moderate success in the subgenre like Dog Soldiers or Ginger Snaps, there’s a Cursed or an Underworld or a dozen direct-to-video disasters that just don’t have the budget to properly depict raging lycanthropes.

The man from Narnia may change that. The Lion The Witch and the Wardrobe director Andrew Adamson has grabbed rights to Kit Whitfield’s werewolf novel Benighted (published as Bareback in the UK – wonder why they changed it), and is working on adapting it for a Warner Bros. feature. The story is set in a world where almost the entire population transforms into werewolves (or “lunes”) during a full moon, leaving the remaining humans to police their bloodthirsty behavior.

I think Adamson more than proved a proficiency with fabricated beasts with Narnia and Shrek, but he’s busy prepping the next Chronicles chapter Prince Caspian, so the werewolves will probably have to wait. Meanwhile, there are a whole bunch of other werewolf projects in development, including Benicio Del Toro’s take on the classic Universal monster The Wolf Man.
