X-MEN Origins: Wolverine 2 is happening. This is something we all must accept.

“But the first one was a hateful pile of-”

Stop. It made lots of money.

“But Vaughn’s doing the rebootish prequel story that-”

Stop. They don’t care. They’re going to Japan, and they’re taking us with them whether we like it or not.

Word from Vulture is that Hugh Jackman will be going after Hard Candy, 30 Days of Night, and Twilight: Eclipse helmer David Slade to direct the film. This is reportedly Jackman’s preference between the Fox-endorsed directs Slade and Robert Schwentke, who directed The Time Traveler’s Wife.

Beyond that, you know the deal. Whoever ends up behind the camera will take on a script that has Wolverine slicing his way through Japan, many Samurai, and love itself.

I consider myself something of an authority on just how shitty the first Wolverine film is- its nearly constant rotation HBO a few weeks ago allowed me to study the intricacies of its incompetence pretty thoroughly. My conclusion? Short of dropping to softcore porn-level production value, they have nowhere to go but up.

Good luck in The East, Hugh. Maybe this will be the one that finally convinces you that you’re better than this shit.
