IGN reports that Screen Daily reports that in nine days the world won’t end, but a Donnie Darko sequel will go before the cameras, directed by Chris Fisher and written by…well, neither article mentions the writer and queries to production houses Silver Nitrate and Newmarket Capital have been shrugged off so far. Fisher wrote the last three features he directed (Nightstalker, Dirty and Rampage: The Hillside Strangler Murders) so make whatever assumptions you like.
The film, called S. Darko (not Sammie Darko?) revolves around Sparkle Motion star and youngest Darko Samantha, played by returning actress Daveigh Chase. Story takes place seven years after Donnie stayed in bed to play catch with a jet engine, and sees Samantha plagued by visions while on a roadtrip to LA. Also among the cast are Ed Westwick, Briana Evigan and Justin Chatwin.
Richard Kelly isn’t involved at all, but Chris Fisher says he likes Kelly’s work enough to ride his coattails with no regrets. Simon Crowe of Velvet Octopus, the sales company handling the film, says, Donnie’s not in [the new film] but there are meteorites and rabbits.
