Earlier this week there was a small parade of news about the next Kevin Smith movie, which boiled down to this: he’s directing the Robb and Marc Cullen script A Couple of Dicks, starring Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan, but Warner Brothers changed the name to A Couple of Cops, which is retarded.
Good news. According to Peter at /Film, WB has decided to keep the original title. Which might seem like a small thing. But it suggests that they actually understand what Kevin Smith is likely to do with the movie, and that the appeal of the final product relies upon a certain tone. That doesn’t suggest merely an ability to find and keep an audience, but to keep the movie on track.
(Yeah, that’s extrapolating a lot based on two words switching back and forth. Let’s not make too much of it until we start to hear real news.)
