According to Deadline
NY
,
Amy Adams and Viggo Mortensen are joining Walter Salles’ adaptation of
On the Road.

If you haven’t read the classic novel, it’s a
mostly autobiographical tale of Karouac traveling cross-country with
his buddy Neal Cassady. He changed the names of all everyone on his trip
(he is referenced as Sal Paradise, Cassady as Dean Moriarty) as he attempts to figure out what life’s all about.

Adams
will appear as Jane (based on Joan Vollmer), and Mortensen will play
Old Bull Lee (based on William S. Burroughs). The couple is just a bit
dysfunctional and addled with all kinds of drugs, so it will be
interesting to see how the actors play off each other.

(Fun fact! Vollmer was murdered by
Burroughs, who was attempting to drunkenly shoot an apple off her head,
William Tell-style.)

They
join the previously
reported

main cast of Kristen Stewart, Sam Riley and Garrett Hedlund. The film
just began production yesterday.
