snowpiercer-chris-evansBong Joon-ho, the director of the 2006 film The Host (not Stephanie Meyer’s dogshit), is in the midst of finishing his first english-language film, and our first look suggests it’s going to be very cool. I get a Gilliam-esque vibe from the promo materials that the folks at Movies.com stumbled across.

From them you’ll see the impressive cast the director (and his producer Park Chan-wook) has assembled, which includes Chris Evans, Song Kang-ho, Jamie Bell, Alison Pill, John Hurt, Tilda Swinton, Octavia Spencer, and Ed Harris. Here’s the synopsis:

The film is set in a future where, after a failed experiment to stop global warming, an Ice Age kills off all life on the planet except for the inhabitants of the Snow Piercer, a train that travels around the globe and is powered by a sacred perpetual-motion engine. A class system evolves on the train but a revolution brews.

It looks like we really in store for a lot of class-division films in the science fiction arena, as this is not entirely dissimilar from the premise of Neil Blomkamp’s Elysium, the indie VFX film Upside Down, or even the clumsy setup of Len Wiseman’s Total Recall remake.

Here are the promotional Korean passports with your first looks at the film:
