Universal Pictures has just picked up a pitch for a movie called The Something.  The spec was written by Rodney Rothman, the youngest ever head writer of Late Night With David Letterman, who also executive produced Forgetting Sarah Marshall and was apparently another Troma victim. (There are too many of us poor souls.)

The details on the plot are being kept in the dark so far but Variety describes it as “an ensemble comedy/horror hybrid set in deep space, similar in tone to Sony’s breakout hit “Zombieland.” A Sci-fi Zombieland is certainly a helluva pitch.

Universal picking this up is more interesting news for the trades than most, because over the last year studios have been loath to pick up
spec scripts, especially ones without a director or actor attached.

Rothman will write and produce the film through his brand new banner. More as we hear it!
