Transformers 3 gets a bump!

Bay and company have decided to roll out with a good ‘ole Wednesday blockbuster release, so now you can witness robots beat the shit out of each other on June 29th rather than July 1st. It’s one of those things that works uniquely for the biggest of the big films, and come that Sunday they’ll have a truly staggering number to throw around, along with all of the big midnight statistics. The film will be so huge that even the mildly diluted three-day numbers will be impressive, so it’s win-win. I can’t remember the last Wednesday release for a film of this scale, but it’s become a very popular summer release technique. I wouldn’t be surprised to see it happen a few more times this year.

And by the way, if you’re still doubting this film’s record breaking earning power, remember that the last film was the highest-grossing non-Avatar film of 2009.

Don’t forget to check out yesterday’s Transformers coverage, which also tackled the larger topic of 3D in general. That piece features a short clip, and there’s a new one floating around today, so enjoy!
