Let’s just dive straight into it, shall we?

  • The upcoming re-adaptation of Stephen King’s Carrie has added a few more names.  First up is Gabriella Wilde (Three Musketeers ’11), who will be taking on the role of “Sue Snell”.  Ivana Baquero (Pan’s Labyrinth) will continue her association with the genre by portraying troublemaker “Chris Hargensen”.  Lastly, Judy Greer is in talks to play gym teacher “Miss Collins”.  They join the previously announced Chloe Grace Moretz, Julianne Moore, Ansel Elgort, and Alex Russell.  Kimberly Peirce (Boys Don’t Cry, Stop-Loss) directs.  The film is currently targeted for release on March 15, 2013.
  • The Tall Man, Pascal Laugier’s follow-up to Martyrs, has been given a theatrical release of August 31st.  The plot follows a mining town where the children are slowly vanishing and a folk legend about the mysterious titular entity.  Jessica Biel, Jodelle Ferland, Stephen McHattie, William B. Davis, Teach Grant, and Samantha Ferris star.  The concept has been described as being very “old school” Stephen King.  I just hope it actually hits screens in my area.
  • Not content with letting NBC hog all of the fun, Lifetime is developing Clarice.  Yep, we’re going to have two Thomas Harris-based TV shows on separate networks.  Clarice will apparently detail the seven years between the events of The Silence of the Lambs and Hannibal.  Most places are reporting that Clarice Starling will not be appearing in the NBC show Hannibal, but that goes against previous reports.  NBC’s “intention” is for Hannibal to run for years and eventually re-adapt the Harris novels over the course of its tenure.  With that in mind, it stands to reason that Starling would eventually make an entrance once they hit the Lambs material, assuming the show lasts that long.  It will be interesting to see how all of this pans out, both in terms of quality and endurance.  Hannibal is set up as a mid-season replacement this coming fall.  No word yet on when Clarice is scheduled to grace television screens.
  • Mason Cook will be the new “Eddie” in Mockingbird Lane, Bryan Fuller’s upcoming revamp of The Munsters.  He joins the previously announced Charity Wakefield and Eddie Izzard, as “Marilyn” and “Grandpa” respectively.

A taste of things to come on The Walking Dead

  • The setting for the second season of FX’s America Horror Story has been announced: An insane asylum during the ’60s.  A handful of cast members will be returning, but as different characters.  Here is the current line-up:  Jessica Lange, Adam Levine, Zachary Quinto, Chloe Sevigny, Sarah Paulson, Lizzie Brochere, Evan Peters, and Lily Rabe.  Any thoughts around here on the first season?  I haven’t caught it yet myself.
  • Last entry I mentioned that the Spierig Bros. are re-teaming with their Daybreakers star Ethan Hawke on a sci-fi thriller titled Predestination.  Well, Sony just picked it up.  Also, the project is apparently based on an old Heinlein story, “All You Zombies”.  No, it will not have the genre-staple flesh-eaters in it.  Casting is underway, so expect more announcements soon.
  • Jason Gedrick (Iron Eagle, Backdraft) will be joining the cast of Dexter for the coming season as a club owner’s caught up in a murder investigation.
  • Marcus Nispel has a new supernatural horror film shooting this summer called Backmask.  I’m sure you’re all excited.
  • IFC has picked up Sightseers, the latest of Ben Wheatley (Kill List).  ‘Tis a “horror comedy” about a couple whose vacation on the British Isles doesn’t quite turn out how they expected.
  • Speaking of Wheatley, the man seems close to securing financing for his next preoject: Freakshift.  The project is described as “Hill Street Blues vs. Monsters” and has a $15 million price tag.  Wheatley hopes to shoot it early next year.

And now for a few trailers…
