It’s been awhile since I tossed one of these up.  Why the absence?  Well, not much has happened until recently in the realm of horror/thriller news.  Things seem to be gaining steam though, particularly when it comes to acquisitions.  So let’s cut to the chase and see what we can find down in the graveyard tonight…

  • Tom Holland (Fright Night, Child’s Play) is getting back behind the camera again with an adaptation of Stephen King’s The Ten O’Clock People.  The story follows a man who is trying to kick his smoking habit, the results of which lead him to discover a shocking truth about the world around him.  Filming is scheduled to begin by the end of summer with Justin Long lined up to star.
  • Fresh off the success of Re-Animator: The Musical, Stuart Gordon is jumping back into theatre once more with Taste.  The stage production is based on real-life cannibal Armin Meiwes and those who “volunteered” to be eaten by the man.  A film version will follow sometime next year and will likely retain the same cast.
  • WWE Studios will be co-producing Brad Anderson’s next film with Troika Pictures.  The project is The Hive and will star Halle Berry and Abigail Breslin.  The Hive involves an emergency call center operator (Berry) on the phone with a teen (Breslin) who has been kidnapped and is riding in the trunk of a car.  The story plays out in real time as she tries to save the girl’s life.  Joel Schumacher was previously attached.
  • Rob Reiner (Misery) is returning to the genre with You Belong To Me.  The thriller is targeting a fall shoot in New York once Reiner finishes his acting gig in Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street.  The vague Cape Fear-esque plot follows a psychiatrist with a dangerous connection to a patient.
  • The first of the two upcoming DTV Cabin Fever sequels is gearing up for production.  Cabin Fever: Patient Zero will be directed by Kaare Andrews (Altitude) from a script by Jack Wade Wall.  This entry details a cruise ship coming across an abandoned research vessel carrying the virus.  Sean Astin, Brando Eaton, and Ben Hollingsworth star.
  • The Walking Dead is getting its own magazine.  The first issue should hit stands in time for the season premiere this fall.
  • Joe Dante’s The Hole is FINALLY being released in the States.  Big Air Studios will be distributing the film on DVD.  No word on a Blu-ray release or if it will be available in 3D as of yet.  One can only hope, but if their handling of Darren Lynn Bousman’s 11-11-11 is anything to go by, it looks like we’ll be getting a DVD only release and possibly a very small limited theatrical run.  I guess that’s better than nothing.
  • The Revenant is also finally hitting our shores this August, courtesy of Lightning Entertainment.  The horror comedy will receive a small theatrical run before hitting home video later in the fall.
  • The Cabin In The Woods will hit Blu-ray, DVD, and VOD on September 18th.  No word on special features at this time.
  • Michael Biehn’s The Victim has will also hit home video on September 18th.  It comes with an audio commentary by director/writer/actor Michael Biehn and co-star/producer Jennifer Blanc-Biehn, a making-of featurette, and a theatrical trailer.
  • Universal Home Entertainment has picked up the rights to Rosewood Lane, the latest horror offering from Victor Salva (Clownhouse, Jeepers Creepers 1&2).  The plot revolves around a radio talk show psychiatrist (Rose McGowan) who moves back to her home town, only to find that everyone in her neighborhood is seemingly terrified of the local paperboy.  Ray Wise, Lin Shaye, and Rance Howard also star.  The thriller streets on DVD, Blu-ray, and VOD on September 11th.
  • Pascal Laugier’s (Martyrs) next, The Tall Man, is scheduled for a limited theatrical run this August.  A release Blu-ray and DVD will follow on September 25th.  The theatrical poster is below…
