When the V remake premiered on ABC last fall, I was less than overwhelmed.  Hell, I was less than underwhelmed.  In a nutshell, I found it to be bland and boring.  It had barely one interesting character in it; and if it weren’t for Elizabeth Mitchell, I probably would have just let it go.  When it came back earlier this year, it improved.  Not a lot, but enough to warrant seeing where it was going.  I still wanted to see what the Visitors looked like, but more importantly, I wanted to find out why they were here.

Since it was floated rather early that procreation with humans was next to impossible, and Morena Baccarin’s Anna, and thus the V race, wasn’t infertile, and they didn’t seem to be munching on humans, even in secret, what was the deal?  To date, most of those questions are still unanswered.  The hybrid baby was born with a fraction of the fanfare that Elizardbreath and her Sleestak twin garnered in the original.  So I’m thinking that V is going to have to bring it big within the first couple of hours upon its return.

Looks like they may.  Because Jane Badler is returning.

According to TVGuide’s William Keck, Badler will be portraying Anna’s mother in a recurring role.  Anna’s mother will indeed be named Diana.  And she’s a prisoner on the mothership in an unexplored section that resembles the V home planet.  Now hopefully this will play out to be more than just a last ditch casting stunt as V barely got renewed for a second season.  But if Badler, who’s still looking pretty good at 56, can revive some of the deliciousness with which she played Diana, something that the also delicious Morena Baccarin has so far not been allowed to do (because, emotionally, V stands for Vulcans in this new version), then maybe this can inject a bit of flavor into the series.  We’ll see.
