George RR Martin’s epic fantasy series, A Song of Ice and Fire, seems to have an equal amount of both adoring fans and dismissive haters. Fans praise the sheer level of detail, the lived in characters, and the dense weave of intricate storylines. Haters piss on Martin’s prose, say the books have too many characters, and that nothing ever happens. One area in which both sides seem to agree (for the most part) is that the books could make a fucking awesome HBO series.

I am incredibly excited for Game of Thrones. I for one like the books, and think the series’ strengths play perfectly into the television format, a format which will also smooth over some of the books’ faults. I’ve been dying to see more footage from the upcoming show, in particular what Peter Dinklage’s Tyrion (arguably the best character in the books) would look like. Well, we get a brief look at Dink all bleached out in this new teaser from HBO.

Pretty generic, if you ask me. I don’t know if these teasers are going to intrigue people who don’t know anything about the books (or win over those who dislike them). I know these are merely meant to wet the appetite, and that there is still a long way to go before the premiere, but HBO is certainly gonna have to do better than this at some point if they actually want people to watch the show.

Anyway, also up on the internets in a quickie behind-the-scenes promo that gives us a look at a few more characters, as well as Martin himself, looking eerily like Mickey Rooney from Pete’s Dragon.
