In the wake of a bunch of cancellations over at The Eye, probably the most surprising was that of Ghost Whisperer, Jennifer Love Hewitt’s touchy feely Sixth Sense-type show where she could carry on conversations with the departed.  The show frequently won its timeslot, had two very good things (perhaps NSFW) going for it.  GW looked good for renewal, along with network mate, Medium, which frequently touched on a lot of the same subject matter.  Alas, Medium made it, GW didn’t.

But the show looked to possibly be spared the grave as ABC expressed interest in picking it up.  Nevertheless, word comes from Variety that Whisperer has indeed been ghosted.  It appears that the show just got too expensive and ABC likely would have placed it opposite Medium on Friday nights, and the network apparently didn’t like the show’s chances in that regard.

Ghost Whisperer exec producers, Kim Moses and Ian Sander, commented on the show’s passing: “After five wonderful
seasons and over 100 episodes, we are disappointed to announce Ghost Whisperer
will not be returning for a sixth season.  We’ve had an incredible experience
and owe a debt of gratitude to everyone involved.  We continue our relationship
with ABC Studios and look forward to developing many more successful projects
together in the future.”

So, farewell Ghost Whisperer.  Though I never watched, we’ll miss them…I mean you…
