ComingSoon.net reports (though I got the news via the Facebook feed of Collider’s esteemed Matt Goldberg) that Game of Thrones alum Alan Taylor has been handed the reins to THOR II.

Taylor – whose debut picture, Palookaville, is a film that will be trapped in my DVR until MGM releases the excellent little faux-crime pic on Blu Ray (which means it will be trapped in my DVR forever) – is taking over for the departing Patty Jenkins, who also has a bit of HBO television* in her past.

Taylor is scheduled to leave the production eighteen days from now, when he discovers that Marvel wants to pay him six dollars to direct the film. Subsequently, the studio will turn to HBO helmer (and Master Ninja) Timothy Van Patten to replace Taylor (which won’t work out, because those Van Pattens are so headstrong).

One wonders if the director they finally settle on will have any time to make the film – and if this news will further infuriate Nattie Portman?

While she is reportedly angry that previous director Patty Jenkins is off the film, Portman is seen here reacting to the fact that her husband Millipede Portman is cavorting with Hollow Man in full view of the paparazzi.

I keep saying that it would have been nice nice if Marvel just hired Neil Marshall and got out of his way – but if they’re gonna’ keep chasing TV guys for this assignment (I’m operating under the assumption that this Taylor news – as it has been with all of the directors on this film – is just temporary), might I suggest John Terlesky? He’s done some big network TV gigs, has a little nerd cred (the man has worked with Nathan Fillion), and Fire Serpent and Cerberus prove he can handle mythical creatures and special effects. Just putting it out there, Kevin Feige…

*Oh, shit – I forgot. It’s not TV…
