Slashfilm points us to the trailer for Visioneers, an indie comedy that kicked up quite a bit of buzz at CineVegas last week. Starring comedian Zach Galifianakis *, Visioneers looks to be like Brazil filtered through ennui instead of fascism. Galifianakis plays George Washington Winsterhammerman, a ‘level 4 tunt’ in the Jeffers Corporation, a megacorp that runs the world in a dystopian parallel modern day. His life is a drag and filled with complacency, but not happiness; things get worse when people begin exploding due to stress. Winsterhammerman learns that having dreams and ambitions are precursors to exploding, and he’s begun having vivid Revolutionary War era dreams of his own.
The trailer really appeals to me, as I like low-key comedies that seem to be as much about pain as anything else. The directors of Visioneers, Brandon and Jared Drake, are getting terrific notices in the reviews, and everybody seems impressed that this is their first feature. They’ve also assembled some cool talent – in addition to the great Galifianakis, they have Judy Greer, James LeGros, and Missi Pyle, who I was just sexually fantasizing about while watching Galaxy Quest. And the score comes from none other than Tim DeLaughter of the Polyphonic Spree.
