toxicarnie

In news that could anger some, excite others and incite further indifference in the rest of us, it looks like Troma’s 1984 cult smash classic The Toxic Avenger is being pitched for a reboot and one Mr. Arnold Schwarzenegger is in talks to star.  So sayeth Variety:

“International Film Trust, the sales outfit launched last week by Benaroya Pictures and Miscellaneous Entertainment, is pitching  Steve Pink’s reboot of the campy 1984 action comedy in the run-up to Cannes. New project has been described as an action adventure geared toward mainstream auds.

Schwarzengegger is talks with the producers to star.  “Hot Tub Time Machine” helmer Pink and Daniel C. Mitchell penned the script while Elysium Films is attached to produce, along with Akiva Goldsman, Richard Saperstein, Charlie Corwin and Michael Benaroya.”

Sooo full disclosure:  I’ve never seen the original, or its sequels, or that musical and I only saw a handful of the episodes of the cartoon.  It just never interested me for some reason.  So, I honestly have no idea what role Schwazenegger could be in talks to play, but Variety makes it clear that it’s NOT Toxie.  That aside though, every single bit of this is preliminary and it could all very well fall apart, though I’d honestly be surprised if this ended up slipping through the cracks – low-budget CGI-fest that’s a lock for PG-13 and all the dollars associated with it?  Done deal.

So what about you guys?  Who do you think Arnold will/should play?  What do you think about the news in general?  I may not be part of it but the original definitely has its audience and I wanna know what you think.
