It’s unclear exactly how Anna Purna picture’s new Terminator film will insert itself into an increasingly convoluted timeline. Especially perplexing will be the inclusion of Arnold’s beloved cyborg while other major characters are recast, and with younger stars than ever!
Regardless of how it will be worked out, both John and Sarah Connor have actors strongly circling the respective roles. Today’s new development is that Jason Clarke –who made good on a 10-year burgeoning career with Zero Dark Thirty— is circling the the John Connor role. Meanwhile Emilia Clarke (Game Of Thrones) and Brie Larson (Short Term 12) are competing for the Sarah Connor role, with Clarke apparently at the forefront- not 
a surprise considering the director of the rebootquel is occasional Game Of Thrones director (and Thor 2 helmer) Alan Taylor.
Clarke’s train already has great momentum as he is leading next year’s Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes (new poster!) and showed up in two 2013 blockbusters- The Great Gatsby and White House Down. Landing this major Terminator role would certainly seal his A-listing for a while though.
On the lady side of things, it’s hard not to cross one’s fingers for Brie Larson. She’s extraordinary in Short Term 12, and has had great turns in films like Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World and The Spectacular Now. It’s very easy to see Larson taking on the rough-and-tumble warrior role of Sarah Connor, whereas Emilie Clarke’s strength seems to be 
more in her strong will and political astuteness. There is a little thing called acting however, so Clarke could totally kill it if she takes the role.
Megan Ellison surely wants a blockbuster hit with this film to bolster her portfolio, so it’s definitely not in the same realm as her artistic dealings with people like Dominik, Jonze and Korine. That said, I’m hoping her more thoughtful taste and approach to producing will at least inform this film and make it more than just another fan-servicing reboot that takes the cake-and-eat-it-too Star Trek alternate timeline approach.
