I know a number of people who maintain the requisite amount of disdain for the Twilight series and yet swear up and down that Stephanie Meyer’s adult novel, The Host, is a different animal. The book is a Body Snatchers riff that Wikipedia summarizes thusly…

Lacking sexy vampires or sparkling, The Host doesn’t quite have the steam that the hysterical tweener set lends to Twilight, but Andrew Niccol and producers Nick Wechsler, Steve Mae Schwartz, and Paula Mae Schwartz have pooled their funds together to purchase the screen rights on their own. Apparently Meyer has heretofore been reluctant to release The Host to Hollywood, and I doubt the studios have been knocking down the door for the vampire-less Stephanie Meyer novel with the state of things as they are. However, Meyer eventually found herself willing to work with this group, considering their pedigree…

The Host has no chance of building the love/hate buzz of Twilight, and will instead likely slide by as another cheap-looking stab at Hollywood sci-fi. It also has no chance of being the the best film entitled The Host.
