It looks like Michael Caine isn’t quite done doing action roles yet.  Good.  THR.com reports that Christopher Nolan’s favorite old guy is in talks to sign onto Journey 2: The Mysterious Island opposite Josh Hutcherson, and the recently-added Dwayne Johnson.  Caine would portray Hutcherson’s grandfather, who goes missing, prompting Hutcherson and Johnson’s characters to go searching for him on a mythical island.  On a side note, it really doesn’t pay to be related to this kid, because there’s a good chance you’ll end up missing in some Jules Verne shithole.  Anyway, Caine’s role is said to not be just a cameo, but requiring action including several chase scenes, including one involving giant bees.

Caine was most recently seen in Nolan’s Inception.  He’ll lend his voice to the upcoming Gnomeo and Juliet and (thankfully) is also slated to return as Alfred for Nolan’s next Batman project.  Production is slated to start in late October in North Carolina and Hawaii and will be shot in 3D.  Brad Peyton (Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore) is directing.
