Sometimes what happens at Sundance should stay at Sundance, whether it’s Devin verbally steamrolling another online journo or or Drew McWeeney getting bad word about the fate of The Green Hornet at Sony. Drew posted an article over the weekend spreading word he’d had from multiple people that the studio’s enthusiasm had cooled for the Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg-penned hero story. The one person Drew didn’t speak to was Seth Rogen, who has since emailed to clear up the report.
Point being: The Green Hornet is still a go. And that’s awesome.
Some of the (assumed) studio disinterest came from the directorial departure of Stephen Chow. Says Rogen: “[The studio heads] have every intention on making it, and assuming we’re able to hire a new director in the upcoming weeks, which seems like a distinct possibilty [sic], it should still hit the release date.” In the meantime, Harry at AICN insists that his sources in Chow’s camp say he’s still going forward in the role of Kato, and that his departure was directorial only.
This is all very good news. I had really warmed to the idea of Chow directing the film, but I’m excited to see what Rogen and Goldberg come up with regardless.
