If you love movies, February hates you. The graphic above makes plain that this is the worst time of the year for new material, and next week is no better: we’ll see the 3D Jonas Brothers movie and Street Fighter, and if you’re lucky you might be able to see Harrison Ford going serious in Crossing Over. That’s as good as it gets until March.
We won’t be reviewing these movies.
There are a few good things we also won’t be reviewing this week, because no screening opportunities have come up: Bertrand Tavernier’s In The Electric Mist, which I’ve written about more than once in the past couple years and am very curious to see, for one. That hits a couple screens. And Andrzej Wajda’s Katyn, about the Nazi massacre of thousands of Poles in a single weekend in 1940, is at the Film Forum in New York.
So catch up on your Oscar viewing. If you live near one of the AMC theaters doing their $30 Best Picture Showcase (check details here) and are behind on the Best Picture noms this year, tomorrow’s your day. Thirty bucks for five films is good, even if one of them is The Reader.
