I’ve been catching the trailer for The Darkest Hour the last few weeks in theatres.  Looks pretty interesting; and, thankfully, also looks to present a different type of alien invasion.  These ETs look like a cross between Predators and that invisible blob thing from that episode of the original Jonny Quest.  Plus, they seem to have a hankering for energy and are packing Jean Grey X-Men: Last Stand disintegration powers.

We just got the new one sheet for the film, which describes itself as a thriller about five young people who find themselves stranded in Moscow, fighting to survive in the wake of a devastating alien attack. The 3D thriller highlights the classic beauty of Moscow alongside mind-blowing special effects.  Now I’m not so much interested in the beauty of Moscow (and apparently neither is the poster below) as I am in seeing a good alien yarn that looks great.  I doubt this will be the final poster because other than a destroyed Moscow, it’s pretty vague.  It’s sort of like if Roland Emmerich decided to do a flick about any ‘burg at mall closing time on Christmas Eve.

Anyway, you can click the poster to enlargify.  The Darkest Hour is directed by Chris Gorak and stars Emile Hirsch, Olivia Thirlby, Max Minghella, and Rachael Taylor and opens on Christmas Day.
