Let me first say that the idea of Alice in Wonderland as a Tim Burton/Johnny Depp/Helena Bonham Carter (as I said a year ago) joint bores me to tears. You want to talk about something that feels like we’ve already seen it, here it is. I’m sure it’ll look great, be whimsical and magical, but I’ve been watching Tim Burton do this kind of stuff for what seems like a third of my life.

Actually more like half.

Then again, if this is Tim’s dream flick I can’t fault him too much and Depp’s deserving of whatever choices he wants to make. Bonham Carter… she’s good and all but there are hordes of actresses out there who need the work, are better qualified, and don’t even know the definition of nepotism.

USA Today has a bunch of pictures from the thing, including the first official stills of all the main characters and some nifty images you can zoom around in. Pretty impressive stuff.

But the designs are jacked. They are OUT THERE. I don’t know if that’s good or bad or if Tim Burton and Johnny Depp are like “What the fuck can they do to us at this stage?“. Either way, I’m intrigued. I’m also already falling asleep at the thought of a Tim Burton Alice in Wonderland. Wake me up when the guy does a police procedural (shut up Sleepy Hollow people) or a film that doesn’t involve spirit gum or people with gray faces.
