I have to hand it to Universal Pictures and they’re promotion for The Bourne Legacy. In the past few months, my interest in this film has gone from “Don’t. Want!” to “Okay, maybe this could work.” A credit to director Tony Gilroy and those workable trailers, this certainly has the look of a Bourne film – with its quick-cut action and propensity for scenes of characters walking very fast, talking very fast.
What I find most intriguing however, is where the film fits in the greater Bourne timeline – taking place during the events of Ultimatum. I’d wager Universal wanted to leave the door open in case Matt Damon ultimately decides to return to the franchise. If Gilroy and Jeremy Renner can pull off Aaron Cross, Universal could have one hell of a moneyshot on their hands in a future installment:
