There you go! The Avengers are back in theaters, as you knew they would be sooner or later. Seems a little sudden and short-notice to make a particularly huge dent in the Box Office or break any new domestic records, but it should help push the film cleanly over $1,500,000,000 worldwide (it’s about $9m away currently). And hell, since there’s not shit else worth seeing among the wide releases and it’s a holiday weekend, it’s definitely a good call. [Update: The rerelease is set for 1,700+ theaters, so it could theoretically make a run at the ~$40m gap between it and Titanic domestically, but if they stick to the one week, that seems highly unlikely.]

I don’t actually think this is misdirection so much as exploiting a cold release frame, but still, it’s funny that this happens as Disney is still sorting out their little Blu-ray collector’s set problem. You may have noticed…
