Kurt Wimmer’s script Edwin A. Salt, now just called Salt and to be directed by Phillip Noyce, has gone through quite a few changes. Lately the project has settled down with Noyce locked to direct, Angelina Jolie as the renamed and re-gendered Evelyn Salt and a March start date in New York.
And Liev Schreiber will bring his own brand of grizzle and paunch (well-manicured and well-trained) to the flick as Evelyn’s CIA boss. Variety calls him her ‘friend’, which implies that he’ll be the one defending Salt from within (slang!) as she’s fingered (not slang!) as a Russian sleeper agent, with all the chasing and shooting and violence-ing that entails.
