There was an internet shitstorm when Stallone announced that Rambo V was going to be made, and that it was going to be Rambo vs. a genetically engineered creature. Adapted from a book called “Hunter” that Stallone has had the rights to for some time. Of course, many thought this was crazy (and this particular writer found it interesting and would have loved to see it made.), so Stallone abandoned it, and instead focused on getting The Expendables 2 and Bullet In The Head made. While still wanting to do a creature film (and Rambo V, just possibly taking place on the Mexican border instead).

Now there’s word that Sly is fast tracking “Hunter” and will star, write, and direct it for a 2014 premiere. The kicker? He’s filming it in 3D. Stallone and 3D are a great combination, as he knows how to compose shots. If Rambo had been in 3D, people would have gone even more nuts over it. If he had exerted his influence and had The Expendables 2 in 3D, we’d have JEAN VILAIN doing spin kicks into the camera.

Finally, I’m really loving that Stallone will be making a full on sci-fi/horror film. Set in the Antarctic no less. I’m one of the few who loved his first dip into the horror pool, with D-Tox/Eye See You, and while that one is more of a slasher film, this is going to be a creature feature.

Here’s the synopsis of the book.

“A beast is loose somewhere north of the Arctic Circle. It has already decimated a secret research facility and annihilated a squad of elite military guards. And the raging creature is headed south toward civilization, ready to wreak bloody devastation. It is a job Hunter cannot turn down, but he soon discovers that his prey is terror incarnate, a half-human abomination created by a renegade agency through a series of outlawed genetic experiments. It has man’s cunning, a predator’s savageness, and a prehistoric power that has transcended the ages. And even if Hunter survives its unrelenting hunger for human blood, he’ll still have to confront the grim reality that it may have grown immortal.“

Stallone’s doing a creature feature! In 3D!
