I’ve been traveling the last week and have thus missed a lot of news; just last night I missed the news that Steven Spielberg was thinking of directing a brand new Matt Helm movie, based on the original novels more than the campy Dean Martin movies.
But now that’s not news anymore! Just a couple of hours after that ran in Variety it became clear that Spielberg would be just producing the movie, which has a script by Paul Attanasio that has been described as in the vein of the Bourne series.
This leaves Spielberg’s next directing gig up in the air; he’s in post on Tintin, but he’s still been dancing with lots and lots of projects. Eventually one will stick.
