My friend Bob Peterson over at CC2K (click the link… click it!) pointed me to Bloody Disgusting’s story that the dreaded (I don’t care who’s directing it) Robocop remake might actually be a sequel.

Thank God.

I’m a die-hard O.G. Robocop fan, and even the news that Darren Aronofsky might be helming a redux of everyone’s favorite strike-breaking, robotic ninja-fighting, baby-food eating future of law enforcement wasn’t enough to get my blood pumping.*

Until I read this:

Present day Los Angeles, 20 years after the termination of the Robocop program, the city decides to reinstate the program.

Yes. A new cast. A new city. The same world. I can get with that. BD suggests taking Aronofsky to a screening of The Dark Knight to show him how to do things “right”, but I suggest a screening of Superman Returns. Better to show someone how easy it can be to fuck up a sure thing than to crib someone else’s style.

*Even though I’m secretly giddy that it’s the director of Pi that’s getting his fingerprints all over my favorite franchise.
