“It is
happening again.”

Those
words, spoken by the giant in Twin Peaks, are
fucking ominous. They mean that a cycle of horror and death is coming around
again; even as the words are spoken, someone is dying. Terribly.

Which is
as good a way as any to explain how I see the work of M. Night Shyamalan. He’s nearly ready to return to the screen with The Happening, a thriller about “
on the run from an
apocalyptic crisis that presents a large-scale threat to humanity”.

Cloverfield Happens.

Where the Wachowskis have used up their
credit, Shyamalan has managed to devalue entire currencies. I’ve got nothing
left in the tank for the man, not after the left and right testicle punches of
The Village and Lady In The Water. And, of course, I’ll end up seeing this one
too. Maybe he’ll surprise me.
