I know you’ve been on the edge of your seat, wondering if the Scary Movie franchise was really going to get rolling again and what would be on the plate for parody this wacky time out. Well, turns out it is — even if its usual star Anna Farris is out — and it will be a parody of Black Swan providing the backbone of the comedy. I also hear word that it will be filming in Atlanta this year as well, but while that in itself could spark a thousand micro-blogs, it doesn’t mean much.

Here’s the synopsis (from casting sides, hence the focus on age and race) that conveys exactly how they’ll be working off the Aronfosky flick.

The story in Scary Movie 5 involves the dance world, with a snooty, aloof, imperious, and oversexed French director of a dance company named Pierre putting on a huge production. Jody, a Caucasian late-20′s mother of two and her late-20′s African American friend Kendra are both vying for the lead in the production. Jody’s extremely controlling former dancer mother is determined that Jody will have the brilliant career that eluded her. The highly skilled mid-30′s Diva veteran dancer with the company, Heather Daltry, gets cut from the production and goes berserk.

According to different interviews The Film Stage has so kindly put together, cast members Anthony Anderson, Regina Hall, and Kevin Hart have all shown some interest in returning, though no deals have been announced yet. The film will be directed by the Malcolm D. Lee, who directed both Undercover Brother and Soul Men (remembered purely for being Bernie Mac’s final film).

The Scary Movie franchise is a weird one, as I feel like some of the films have been well-received, and non of them have been as outright hated as say, an Epic Movie. That said, these kinds of parody films have seemingly cooled off a bit- it’s hard to keep a feature film steeped in relevant parody when Facebook feeds, online SNL clips, and South Park have accelerated the pace at which we regurgitate our own culture back at ourselves, make fun of it, and move on. That probably has something to do with why a parody of Black Swan feels more outdated than the earlier films taking on movies with even more distance between them.
