Ah, Photoshop! We heard a while back that increasingly ubiquitous actor and all-purpose bad motherfucker Samuel L. Jackson would be lending his voice to Spike TV’s animated series based on Takashi Okazaki’s comic Afrosamurai, but he must’ve become addicted to the slashing of people and objects during the Star Wars prequels (or maybe he saw the Clone Wars cartoons and realized just how cool his character could/should have been).

Jackson is now planning to go all Zatoichi on some sorry asses in a live-action Afrosamurai feature as well.  According to the official press release, it tells the story of “No. 2, the Afro Samurai, who travels the road looking for revenge on those who murdered his father in front of him when he was just a boy. The focus of his attentions is No. 1, a three-armed gunman who is the lord of the dark swordsman’s road.”  Which sounds a little like an even weirder variation of Seijun Suzuki’s Branded to Kill, if that’s possible.

Occasionally it seems like Jackson uses the Chris Walken script selection method of “What’s it pay and when’s it start?”, but I have to admit this doesn’t seem like one of those cases.  But bear in mind this is coming from someone who enjoyed the hell out of Undercover Brother (reviewed HERE).  Jackson stars in next year’s reptilian air thriller SNAKES ON A PLANE.

The Afrosamurai movie is aiming for a 2007 release, while the animated series hits US airwaves next year, after which it will (in a bizarre change of pace) be  “reverse imported” to Japan where it will air with Japanese subtitles.  It’s anti-anime!
