The trailer for Ricky Gervais’ The Invention of Lying has just hit Yahoo’s UK site.

The plot of the film is a simple bit of genius: what if you lived in a world where everyone told the truth, and were the first to invent lying? No embedding of the trailer is allowed, so head on over to check it out.

The trailer’s got more than a few chuckles in it but it also looks pretty lighthearted. That could simply be the trailer or a sign of Gervais’ newer tendencies. Have you seen Ghost Town? A decent film, sure, but what a sappy one! One can only bet that by the end of this film everyone will be lying, he’ll be back to his usual schlub self, and probably with Jennifer Garner in some strange twist of fate.

But the list of actors appearing is pretty ridiculous. Louis C.K., Tina Fey, Jeffrey Tambor, Rob Lowe, Jonah Hill, Christopher Guest, and with Patrick Stewart narrating? Wow.

Jeremy Smith loved the script back when it had the much better title This Side of the Truth and so did Devin, although he recently mentioned that test audiences hated it. We shall see for ourselves soon- it hits theaters September 25th in the US and cinemas on October 2nd in the UK.
