I’m giving Sylvester Stallone a lot of the benefit of the doubt when it comes to Rocky Balboa, aka Rocky VI. I’m less inclined to give him much benefit but much more inclined to doubt when it comes to the new Rambo film, subtitled In the Serpent’s Eye. Jesus, might as well call it Straight to Encore Action Channel.
Production Weekly is reporting that the film will start shooting in January in Thailand, unless Tony Jaa can do something about it. They also have the latest update on the plot of the movie, which is much changed from what I last remember hearing (although who knows – I have a hard time keeping up with movies that are both less than interesting and offer only hackneyed joke opportunities):
The next chapter finds Rambo recruited by a group of Christian human rights missionaries to protect them against pirates, during a humanitarian aid deliver to the persecuted Karen people of Burma. After some of the missionaries are taken prisoner by sadistic Burmese soldiers, Rambo gets a second impossible job: to assemble a team of mercenaries to rescue the surviving relief workers.
Karen people? Are any of them carpenters? Are they black? Perhaps they use Cisco routers.Well, if Rambo III is any indication, we’ll find ourselves embroiled in a war with them soon enough.
